About Our Union
In 2013, Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) created the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) as a non-profit organization to advocate for salaries, benefits, and workplace policies that foster job satisfaction and the highest standards of professional competence among AAGs. In 2019, AWAAG affiliated with AFSCME Council 28, Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). Legislation passed in the 2019 session that gave AAGs the right to collectively bargain. AWAAG-AFSCME is certified as a bargaining unit and became Local 5297 on July 1, 2020. Sen. Steve Conway (center), chair of the Senate Labor, Commerce & Tribal Affairs Committee, joins AWAAG members on the day that SSB 5297 was signed into law.
