This year is a “short” 60-day session. As usual, we'll provide biweekly status updates on key bills affecting our union to help keep you informed. The updated bill tracking spreadsheet will be posted here on our website.
Last year, we successfully secured funding for AWAAG’s FY23-25 Collective Bargaining Agreement. As a result, our legislative efforts this session will focus on “lunchbox issues” (compensation, job security, and working conditions), expanding collective bargaining rights for our fellow state employees, and promoting continued progress on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will also advocate for fully funding the AGO’s supplemental operating budget to support the implementation of any new policy bills that could have significant workload impacts on our members.
Although the legislature has returned to an in-person format, all committee hearings and floor activity will continue to be streamed on TVW. There are a number of ways you can make your voice heard during this legislative session, such as testifying (in-person or remotely) at committee hearings and corresponding with the legislators who represent your district through letters, phone calls, and emails. In the coming weeks, we will be soliciting volunteers to testify on AWAAG’s behalf at committee hearings. We will also provide training materials and talking points to assist our members in being effective advocates.
In the meantime, if you would like to get involved in AWAAG’s lobbying efforts this session, or if you have any suggestions regarding which bills to prioritize or other improvements we can make to our legislative advocacy efforts, please contact Caroline Cress.
